In 1816, the Lagavulin whisky distillery was founded by John Johnston. Surrounded by dark peat bog and drawing its water from the Solan Lochs, Lagavulin sits at the head of a bay and not far from the ruins of Dunyvaig castle. The single malt whiskies from Lagavulin are amongt the world's smokiest with thick lapsang souchon enveloping the palate without remorse.
Lovely map of Islay by Kate McLelland. Islay, known as The Whisky Isle, is home to seven of Scotland's longest-producing, most celebrated whisky distilleries --including Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Isla, Lagavulin and Laphroaig.
Time to taste the 200th anniversary edition of the Lagavulin 8 year old. I have to compliment Diageo for not going the obvious commercial NAS and “flavour led” way. They had the ball’s to bottle a young whisky (finally). More thought’s on this expression can be found in my conclusions. #lagavulin
