Antarctic: a small group of emperor penguin stand on the edge of an ice drift Dec. 1, 2006, in the Ross Sea in the Antarctic. L'Hôtel de la Marine, Galerie Doree - Paris. Originally built in 1757 and 1774 under Louis XV. It was plundered by the Parisian mob on the morning of July 13, 1789. The Dept. of the Navy occupied most of complex and even to day retains some space. The beautiful interiors are the work of the architect Jacques Gondouin, inspired by Piranesi; reworked under the Second Empire, but the ceremonial rooms and especially this Golden Gallery still retain features of the original design.
