Midcentury Lawn And Garden

This midcentury modern home is warm and open to nature. The landscaping is an important focus, with a rock garden, koi pond with waterfall, dry Zen garden and expansive front lawn.

Behind a Brooklyn townhouse, the client envisioned a simple gravel court, a seating area, and a low-maintenance garden. The design delivers that and more: espaliered flowering trees and mossy fairy rings.

"I love this evergreen combination of bamboo muhly, firecracker fern (Russelia equisetiformis), and some variety of palm, with Yucca rostrata..."

Great Groundcovers!

Great Groundcover: Sedum ‘Angelina'. It grows in sun or shade, with moist soil or dry, and spreads like crazy. It even plants itself from broken stems that blow around the yard! It’s a gorgeous yellow green, and gets yellow flowers in early summer, but they aren’t really attractive to bees. Works in beds, containers, or between pavers. It is semi evergreen, and gets a cool bronzy tip in the winter. Here you see it with hostas.
