Miguel de Cervantes (29 Sep 1547 - 23 Apr 1616) was a Spanish novelist, poet, & playwright. His most famous novel "Don Quixote of La Mancha" was the first modern European novel, is a classic of western literature, & is widely regarded amongst the best works of fiction ever written. His body of work is a favorite among Spanish-speaking intellectuals, and his influence on the Spanish language is so great that is often called "La lengua de Cervantes (The tongue of Cervantes)".
