The Michigan State women's basketball team picked up its third victory over a ranked team this afternoon, knocking off No. 19/16 Purdue, 89-73 at the Breslin Center. MSU utilized a balanced and efficient offensive effort, as five Spartans scored in double figures and the team shot 50.0% from the field. The Spartans (15-7) remain alone in second place in the Big Ten at 7-2.
Tuesday night's Michigan State-Michigan game marks the first time in 170 all-time meetings that both the Spartans and Wolverines enter the contest ranked in the Top 10. The MSU Athletics Department is asking Spartan fans to wear white to Tuesday night's contest as a show of uniform support for the men's basketball team.
The No. 20/18 Michigan State women's basketball team opens the 2013-14 season with a top-20 battle at No. 6/7 Notre Dame (1-0) on Monday night at 7 p.m. The Spartans, who were also picked third in the Big Ten, return five of their top-six scorers from last season and opened with two strong offensive performances in the exhibition games. MSU begins with a road game for the first time since 2009 and it is the highest ranked MSU opponent since Nov. 19, 2010.

A game on an United States Air Force Base in Germany, a neutral-site contest against a Top-5 team, a road game in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, a return to Jenison Field House and a home game against Texas highlight Michigan State's non-conference schedule. MSU's league slate includes five opponents ranked in the Top 25 by both CBSSports.com and ESPN.com.
