Mutsuhiro Watanabe. After reading about the Rape of Nanking, the accounts of this man aren't surprising — but troubling nonetheless. He was despised by his own comrades for being violent. A British survivor described him as a psychopath. Raised in wealth, perhaps frustrated to have not rec'd an officer's commission, his sadism put him on MacArthur's list of 40 most sought-after war criminals. Watanabe lived out his days in wealth and comfort.
