The history of hurricanes in Puerto Rico starts with the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the island in November 19th, 1493.The naming system of storms here was based on the catholic tradition of naming the storm with the "saint" of the day (e.g. San Ciprián on September 26th)

Also, hurricanes, tropical storms and tropical depressions have mostly female names. A lot of ships/boats have female names. Even if they don’t, they’re still referred to with the female pronouns, including aircraft carriers, who are named after U.S. Presidents.
