Madewood, former 10,000 acre sugar plantation manor house, on the Bayou Lafourche south of Napoleonville, LA. Built for Col. Thomas Pugh between 1800|1848, designed by architect Henry Howard in Greek Revival style. Thomas Pugh died of yellow fever in 1852. During the Civil War, the lawns were used by Union troops as a hospital. Added to NRHP 30.10.1973, designated NHL 4.5.1983.
