Gabriel (1776 – October 10, 1800), today commonly – if incorrectly – known as Gabriel Prosser, was a literate enslaved blacksmith who planned a large slave rebellion in the Richmond area in the summer of 1800. Information regarding the revolt was leaked prior to its execution, and he and twenty-five followers were taken captive and hanged in punishment.

NAT TURNER'S REBELLION (also known as the Southampton Insurrection) was a slave rebellion that took place in Southampton County, Virginia, during August 1831. Led by Nat Turner, rebel slaves killed anywhere from 55 to 65 people, the highest number of fatalities caused by any slave uprising in the American South.
Nat Turner (1800 –1831) was an African-American slave who led a slave rebellion in Virginia in 1831 that resulted in 60 white deaths. White militias and troops suppressed the uprising. Mobs attacked blacks in the area killing an estimated total of 100-200, many not involved with the revolt. The state arrested and executed 57 blacks accused of being part the rebellion. Turner was captured, quickly tried, convicted, sentenced to death, and hanged.
