Arguably one of the greatest coaches in NBA history, Red Auerbach was the mastermind behind the Boston Celtics dynasty. He also, was an excellent General Manager drafting the likes of Larry Bird and Kevin McHale. A trademark of Red would be smoking a cigar when he knew his team have won.
June 4, 1968 - With the first pick in the 1968 NBA Draft, the San Diego Rockets select Elvin Hayes of the University of Houston. Hayes led the NBA, as a rookie, in scoring with 28.4 points per game while also averaging 17.1 rebounds per game, earning him a spot on the NBA All-Rookie First Team. He is the only rookie in NBA history to lead the league in scoring.
