Nurse uniforms thru the years: The first class of student nurses entered Royal Columbian Hospital in 1901 – the era of the horse and buggy doctor and a Victorian way of life. The last class graduated in 1978
student nurses - the only change in student nurses uniforms for many years was the white hose and shoes. My class that entered Phila. Gen'l Hosp. School of Nursing in 1960, was the first not to have to wear black hose and shoes as they entered the school.
1930s nurses uniform - student nurses uniforms were close in look from one school to the next and didn't change much from one decade to the next. Mine in 1960-63 looked much like this one, usually a blue or grey chambray dress with detachable highly starched white collar & cuffs (most cuffs closed on the outside with white button cuff links), and a bibbed full pinafore apron, some of the bibs were high like this one (& mine) and some were lower. Notice the black hose & shoes.
