Saint Hildegard von Bingen was the first musical composer who has a known biography. She was also one of the few women to write works of theology and visionary experiences in her day. She started to have visions of luminous objects at the age of three which continued throughout her life. She wrote down what she saw in her visions when God commanded her at the age of 42.
