Oil-based sharpies can change color after being baked. This site explains not only how to make a DIY mug, but also identifies the GOOD colors (Black, Silver, Gold, Yellow, Pink, Brown, Dark Green) and BAD colors (Orange-turns brown, Blues-turn green, Purple-turns pink, Red-turns a dark burgundy, Lime Green-turns to more of a pea green, White - yellows).
Coasters made from 16 cent tile from Home Depot. Hand drawn, original art. Used oil-based sharpie. (Not finished yet) will cure in oven once dry, then coat with spray shellac to make them more durable.
These Dollar Store plates decorated with a Sharpie Oil Based Paint Pen are the perfect choice! Just add your design (If you are like me, and can not even draw a stick person, just buy a stencil), and bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, and the design becomes permanent and food safe! I plan on making several of my Christmas candies and cookies and spreading cheer through the neighborhood.
Paint pen or oil based sharpie, allow them to dry for at least 24 hours. Once 24 hours has passed place them in a cold oven (this is important! you want them to heat up with the oven). Turn the oven to 400 degrees and set a timer for 40 minutes. After the 40 minutes is up, turn the oven off and leave the cups to cool with the oven. Once they’re cool they’re ready to use!
