"Irish Deities | Celtic gods | The Olde Country" -- hmmm, well, these gods are not all Irish. And not all are gods, in the strict sense of the term (see Finn and Cuchulain {sic}). Some are, yet some are Gaulish (examples: Epona, Taranis). All may be described as "Celtic." ~ Julia

Ogham Stones of Ireland Ogham is the earliest form of writing in Ireland, it dates to around 4th century A.D. and was in use for around 500 years. The Ogham alphabet is made up of a series of strokes along or across a line. Ogham is sometimes referred to as the "Celtic Tree Alphabet" as a number of the letters are linked to old Irish names for certain trees. The alphabet was carved on standing stones to commemorate someone, using the edge of the stone as the centre line.

This is a picture of my tattoo taken in April of ‘09 right when it was done. It’s written in Ogham, the Celtic tree alphabet, which was used to write Old Irish. In Old Irish this says “gaol buan” which, when translated, says “unfailing love”. You read it from bottom to top and each set of lines is a letter. The larger space is the space between words. I get a lot of strange guesses about what people think it is but I love it!
