Pinnacles National Park is a real gem hidden in California’s continental area. Probably it’s more well-known among rock climbers than hikers, because the rock formations are just paradise for them. But they were paradise for our eyes, too!

Pinnacles National Monument, California. This lovely park in the middle of the state is worth the long drive with some of the most interesting hiking I've seen. Condors, bats, cave trails, ledge trails, and the lonely pinnacle trail with catwalks and handrails and crude ladders carved into the volcanic rock to keep you from pitching off the side. Caves are sometimes closed to protect the bats, but bring a good flashlight. Camping is required, a nice private campground with a pool and wild…
