Although this photo is commonly believed to be Taza, it's Noche, a Chiricahua Apache. Taza avoided the camera as Cochise did. As son of Cochise, and elder brother of Naiche, Taza became chief of the Chiricahuas when Cochise died in 1874. As part of a delegation of Apaches to the white man's capitol, tragedy struck. Taza developed pneumonia and though given all available medical attention, he died within a few days. Taza was buried in the Congressional Cemetery. B:1843, D:26-9-1876.
