Angela Davis (b.1944) is an American political activist, scholar, author, and lecturer, she gained prominence as an activist and radical in the 1960s. A member of both the Black Panther Party and the Communist Party USA, then California Gov. Reagan requested she be barred from teaching at state universities. She was put on trial and acquitted of suspected involvement in the 1970 abduction and murder of a judge. Openly gay, a prison-rights activist, she is a retired professor at UCSC.
