The Wolseley expedition was a military force authorized by Sir John A. Macdonald to confront Louis Riel and the Métis in 1870, during the Red River Rebellion, at the Red River Colony in what is now the Canadian province of Manitoba.
The Red River Rebellion. In 1869 a rebellion occurred involving Louis Riel and the Red River Métis as they wanted to retain the settlements occupants rights. Riel set up a provisional government to create negotiations with the settlers. The Manitoba Act was eventually created and protects many Aboriginals rights today.
