    Craig, try a granite or marble top. Use the original top as a template. Or, ikea has butcher block counter tops. You could get one of those and use the original as a template to cut out the correct size and shape.

    So I have a quite similar dresser. I ripped the 1/16" layer off the top that was just a plastic type top. Underneath is a particle wood. What can I buy and where that I can place on top of this dresser to make it new again. I can provide pics if someone can help me out.

    If I had the time, I would love to refinish some of the old furniture we have. I think it would be a fun project to bring the old pieces we inherited up to date. Tip for using Mimwax GEL – for no drip staining furniture! I know [painting] wood pieces [is] ALL The RAGE on Pinterest, and some pieces do look better painted - especially French Country - but I really like this classic look and this gal's entry just really appealed to me.
