Indirect spinothalamic pathways. These pathways mediate the affective and arousal components of pain, temperature, and simple tactile sensations. (A) The ascending axons in the paleothalamic tract synapse in the brainstem reticular formation and neurons in midline and intralaminar thalamic nuclei, which then project diffusely to the cerebral cortex including the cingulate gyrus. (B) In the spinoreticular tract, one group of ascending axons projects to the medullary reticular formation, and…

I want to use this idea for the 3 forms of health we teach in 3rd grade, physical, mental/emotional, and family/social.

The reticular formation is a set of interconnected nuclei. This “web of gray matter” runs vertically throughout the brainstem and has connections with the cerebrum. This has over 100 neural networks that use different neurotransmitters that function in: Somatic motor control, Cardiovascular control, Pain modulation, Sleep and consciousness, and Habituation. The two components of this formation are the ascending and descending reticular formation.

@Julie Cissell- I think we need something like this (with a few more) for your office- Now who@M Carroll do we know that does such things????? ;) Classroom Rules

Reticulur Formation. The reticular formation is a region in the brainstem that is involved in multiple tasks such as regulating the sleep-wake cycle and filtering incoming stimuli to discriminate irrelevant background stimuli. It is essential for governing some of the basic functions of higher organisms, and is one of the phylogenetically oldest portions of the brain.

.In this pin I can see the formation of a cross & underneath it looks like a crown & the two seem connected to each other, Now how awesome is that!!!!!
