Richard Doyle (1824-1883), “Pecopin and Baldur.” This was produced for an illustrated manuscript of Victor Hugo’s medieval romance “Pecopin and Baldur”. This is one of several manuscripts prepared by Richard and Charles Doyle and their other two brothers , Henry and James, and dates from 1840 or earlier. The manuscript was never completed and the illustrations were cut from the text and preserved in an album by the artist. (Sotheby’s, 1997 “Realms of the Mind: British Fantasy Art....")
