KANSAI-KYOTO: Kibune: A town near Kyoto that has restaurants that let you dine above the stream, a relatively famous temple, and is hiking distance from an onsen on the other side of the mountain. I think spending the night at the onsen, then hiking here to spend the day, then hiking back to the onsen to spend another night, would be a delightful experience. :)
From June to September, Kibune's restaurants build covered platforms out over the river where visitors can enjoy a meal as the water flows beneath them. Known as kawadoko, dining on the platforms is a relaxing experience and an excellent way to escape the summer heat. Photograph by Michelle Wiese
Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar in New Braunfels, Texas, was selected by AAA as a favorite historical restaurant! Constructed in 1878 as a cotton gin in this German settlement, now a historic district, the restaurant sits beneath the old Gruene water tower. View the rushing Guadalupe River beneath the shade of ancient oak trees. Inside, enjoy thick-cut steaks, oversize strawberry shortcakes and Jack Daniels pecan pie amid the ambience of enormous wood beams and period brick walls.
