1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake

A career highlight of my time at the San Francisco Chronicle was Oct. 18, 1989, and the 7.1 Loma Prieta Earthquake. (The dead count was later revised to about 70.) We produced a couple days of papers with no electricity, but a portable generator powering the Art department's Macintosh computers. The Bay Bridge between work and my home in the East Bay was knocked out.
