you may already know how, but if you don't, learn how to sharpen knives on a whetstone. then polish once or twice a week with a polishing steel. if you can't slice through tomato skin on the first draw, it isn't sharp. you will learn the particular ways serrated and dull knives suck after you know how to sharpen your own knives.
