maybe a cheaper version of our tin idea?

Tin is a chemical element with the symbol Sn.Tin has many uses. It takes a high polish and is used to coat other metals to prevent corrosion, such as in tin cans, which are made of tin-coated steel. Alloys of tin are important, such as soft solder, pewter, bronze and phosphor bronze. A niobium-tin alloy is used for superconducting magnets.

Held long enough, gallium will melt in the hand as it liquefies at temperature of 29.77 °C (85.59 °F) (slightly above room temperature). Its melting point is used as a temperature reference point. The alloy Galinstan (68.5% Ga, 21.5% In, 10% Sn) has an even lower melting point of −19 °C (−2 °F). From its discovery in 1875 until the semiconductor era, gallium was used primarily as an agent to make low-melting alloys.

Crystals of gallium. The chemical element gallium is a rare, soft silvery metallic poor metal. It occurs in trace amounts in bauxite and zinc ores. Gallium is notable for its stunning silvery color and its solid metal fractures conchoidally like glass.

Growing Bismuth Crystals

sixpenceee: Bismuth Crystals are beautiful. They have an interesting geometric form and are rainbow-colored from the oxide layer that quickly forms on them. Here’s a website that has instructions on how to make them. (Source: sixpenceee, via accio-peace)

So... this is officially my first "pin". Tongue-in-cheek. But it is so cool, too!

Boron square sticker

Boron is found in the common mineral borax, but is rarely seen in pure form, as in these polycrystalline lumps. While extremely hard, boron is too brittle in pure form to have any practical applications.

Magnesium Ninth most abundant element doesn’t occur naturally in itself, but with other elements. Slightly tarnishes in air. When its finely divided, it immediately combusts with a white flame. Seventh most abundant element in humans.Beneficial function in muscles, heart, skeletal & nervous system. Bolsters immune system, helps regulate blood sugar levels, blood pressure. Used as metal, magnesium is an alloy for aluminum, in die-casting, expel sulfur in production steel, iron & of titanium.
