Day 1, a song from your childhood- Clocks by Coldplay. I heard this in the car with my dad one day when I was pretty little, and didn't hear it again for a long time. Then one day, I buy the Coldplay album with this on it, and I hear it and just start to cry because it was so familiar and so beautiful, and it's still one of my favorite songs.
Peter, Paul and Mary -Puff The Magic Dragon. This would be fun to learn to go along with the reading of "My Father's Dragon" read in Sonlight Core A. For added fun, you can see Peter, Paul & Mary performing the same song about 40 years earlier at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RC2tlNmz4ao

Billy Joel "Always a Woman to Me" I like most of Joel's songs about women...which would be most of his songs. Just listened again and realized I am pretty much the opposite of this woman. Perhaps its the woman I'd rather be.
OPINION WRITING: This is great to teach kids how to cite evidence and give reasons in opinion writing in a really fun way! "I have evidence that my dad is an alien" is an Audi commercial that can lead to a great discussion about observations.
My dad and mom Gen X, okay, but they made me listen to bands like Mumford and Sons, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fall Out Boy, and Guns N' Roses and I don't think I'd like the songs I do now if they hadn't let me listen to them when I was younger. So I hope when I'm an adult if I have children, they'll grow up on FOB, MCR, P!ATD, Guns N' Roses, Weezer, etc. and songs that my parents played for me.
