Everyone responds instinctively to music. A person’s ability to engage in music often remains intact far into the advanced stages of dementia. Music triggers certain networks of the brain that benefit people suffering from difficulties with language, cognition, or motor control.
SUNDOWNING occurs most often in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s/other dementias. Studies estimate up to 20 % of persons with Alzheimer's/other dementias will experience increased confusion, anxiety & agitation as the day ends (sun sets). Others may experience changes in their sleep schedule & restlessness during the night. These disruptions in the sleep-wake cycle often lead to more behavioral problems causing a serious challenge for families. ~ Lori
