David "Davy" Crockett (1786 - 1836) He fought in the militia against the indians in the "Creek war". He was elected United States Congressman in 1826, 1828 and 1833. In 1836 he went to Texas to support the Texas revolution. The commander of the Alamo, William Tavis, asked for help and Crockett and others answered his call. The mexican General Santa Anna took the Alamo, at high cost. On his orders no prisoners were taken.
Texas election: Wendy Davis wins Democratic primary in governor's race - Texas Republicans choose Attorney General Greg Abbott to face Davis in the November election. Voters also elect George P. Bush -- nephew of George W. and son of Jeb -- as land commissioner.
Texas Ranger Captain's badge ... found in a garden in Navasota in 1999; a rare and sought-after collector's item, of historical value, estimated to be worth upwards to a thousand dollars. Not only was it a rare captain's badge, but it had the name of the Ranger Captain right on the front of it, that of M. E. Bailey. Bailey is known for having once captured four Mexican Revolutionary Generals, all at one time, who were in south Texas recruiting for Pancho Villa.
