The Ink Spots were a vocal group in the 1930s and 1940s that helped define the musical genre that led to rhythm and blues and rock and roll, and the subgenre doo-wop. They and the Mills Brothers, another black vocal group of the same period, gained much acceptance in both the white community and black community. Their songs usually began with a guitar riff, followed by the tenor Bill Kenny, who sang the whole song through.

Using fire with alcohol ink! Gets some really interesting results. I tried it tonight on metal but I was working on pre-formed cuffs and -no big surprise- because of the curves I couldn't build up enough alcohol in one spot to maintain a flame more than a moment. I'll try a flat piece tomorrow.

John William Sublett (February 19, 1902 – May 18, 1986), known by his stage name John W. Bubbles, was an American vaudeville performer, dancer, singer and entertainer. Sublett’s catchphrase, “Shoot the liquor to me john boy,” has been quoted in songs by several artists, including The Manhattan Transfer, The Ink Spots, and Louis Armstrong, among others.
