With its aching musical soundtrack and exquisitely abstract cinematography by Christopher Doyle and Mark Lee Ping-bin, this film has been a major stylistic influence on the past decade of cinema, and is a milestone in Wong’s redoubtable career.
Glenn Miller - In The Mood "In the Mood" is a song popularized by the American bandleader Glenn Miller in 1939, and one of the best-known arrangements of the big band era. Miller's rendition topped the charts one year later and was featured in the 1941 movie Sun Valley Serenade.
Glenn Miller - In The Mood. This is a scene from "Orchestra Wives", the o only movie Miller appeared in (he's playing the lead trombone). But pay close attention when the camera switches from Miller to the pianist - the guy playing the piano looks like the same guy who played Fred Gailey (the lawyer who represented Santa Claus) in "Miracle on 34th Street"..could it be he?
Wong Kar Wai is my favorite director, and In the Mood For Love is my favorite film from his resume. I watched it knowing nothing about the director or his style, and I walked away realizing film could be so much more than a story. It could be moving art, and no one captures that sensation like Wong Kar Wai can. In the Mood For Love is haunting and emotional, something very few stories could ever hope to be. Recommended to any, and all, cinephiles. #movie
