Mushroom Tart with Caramelized Onion Cream Recipe

If you're making a savory tart, flaky phyllo dough is a brilliant alternative to a traditional pie crust. The only catch is, most recipes have you brush each layer with melted butter. Using melted coconut oil works just as well; and, in this case, tastes even better. That's because it beautifully complements this tart's toppings, which are much lighter than your typical bacon, ham or cheese.

Steak Pie: A Scottish Hogmanay Tradition

Silicone Pastry Brush and Grill BBQ Basting Brush Set - I don't think I would use this with a barbecue since the handles are so short, but they are perfect to use for pastry. You don't have to worry about the bristles falling out like you do with traditional pastry brushes.

Iris Hantverk Pastry Brush

Born out of an artisan collective that formed in the late 19th century, the Iris Hantverk company continues to produce tools that bring together lovely form and utilitarian function from a small workshop in Sweden. Each brush they craft is hand made by visually impaired craftsmen, hand knotted, using natural materials, exclusive designs, and practices drawn from Swedish tradition.

Libby's Pumpkin Pie *BUT, I add a pinch of nutmeg, use 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/4 cup brown sugar. I also do not add the entire 12 oz of evaporated milk (maybe 10 oz)... sets up nice and firm. Always get great reviews for my pie. And brush melted butter on pie crust (even if store bought). NOTE: my notes are for one pie, the photo of the recipe is for 2 pies!!
