A wool and silk dressing gown from the mid-1850s. I imagined my character Clare Hetton as loving, and wearing, such garments with their more informal shapes and exotic fabrics. Dressing gowns of the period were much more formal than their bathrobe descendents today, as this beautifully constructed garment shows.
