vacuum cleaner - invented by Hubert Booth in 1901. This was the first major house hold device that allowed people to clean their rugs, or floors.


The Hoover Historical Center is the Victorian boyhood home of Hoover Company founder, William H. Hoover. The Center is located inside Walsh University. Check out the 1840's building and its contents including the first 1908 Hoover (manual) vacuum. Makes you appreciate modern vacuum cleaners!


The vacuum cleaner evolved from the carpet sweeper via manual vacuum cleaners. These were popular before the introduction of the vacuum cleaner and have been largely superseded by them.
