Add a dramatic style statement in any room with these floating shelves. Though they look like they’re made of solid wood (walnut in our case), this project is actually all plywood that has iron-on edging to cover the exposed plywood edges. You’ll be amazed how easy this shelf unit is to build. Get the free DIY plans at

Wood Range Hood

Wood Range Hood - Basically, he built a a big wood box and then figured out the angles to cover the existing hood. He used a router to cut grooves into the walnut plywood to make it look like planked boards – it is a lot cheaper to go that route.I wanted a wood tone to break up all the white in the kitchen, so he used walnut to match our floors. I added 3 coats of satin water based clear poly to seal it.

DIY Plywood floors. 1/4 cabinet grade oak plywood. 4x8 sheet ripped to 8'x8" planks, lightly sanded, glued down on concrete with Bruce All-In-One hardwood adhesive, sanded, stained with Minwax in Special Walnut and sealed with Verathane (2 coats).

Stained plywood floor! We remodeled an old trailer house. The floors were partially redone already, and we originally planned to use laminate flooring. Then we got the idea to use plywood. We sanded it ourselves and stained it with a dark walnut stain. Finishing with a coat of poly urethane, it looks beautiful!
