Wojtek (soldier bear) In 1942, a local orphan boy found a bear cub near Hamadan, Iran. He sold it to the soldiers of the Polish Army stationed nearby for a couple of canned meat tins. The bear was less than a year old & had problems swallowing. He was fed condensed milk from a vodka bottle. The bear was fed with fruit, marmalade, honey and syrup. He was often rewarded with beer, his favorite drink. He also enjoyed smoking & eating cigarettes, wrestling & was taught to salute when greeted.
