Steve has been chronically homeless for years, has been waiting for housing, and waiting, and waiting. He sold the award-winning REAL CHANGE street newspaper from 1998-2009 and last month he again became a vendor, selling over 300 papers in the first two weeks, earning him a place in the 300 CLUB, WOW! 7 days a week he sells the paper from 6AM to 10:30AM in Wallingford, out front of the Starbucks on 45th; stop by to 'Just Say Hello' and for $2.00 a paper, you'll be glad you did!

Meet Kelly, he's 42 years old, grew up in Kettle Falls, moved to Spokane when he was 12, came back later to Seattle looking for work, injured his hand, lost his ID, is leaving town this Saturday, has a Greyhound bus-ticket back to Spokane. He's found a place to stay there with a friend named Walter, we called him on my phone just to check in, sadly found out Walter's mom had just died. Despite his emotional state, he said to me, "Thanksfor making friends with Kelly, he's a good guy."

Often it is said that the homeless choose to be homeless. The truth is that nobody chooses suffering over comfort, nobody chooses sickness over health, nobody chooses to be left out over being included; the truth is nobody chooses homelessness. Please watch this TEDx video; Crystal chose to leave home, not to be homeless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dpanM1yPbk https://www.classy.org/campaign/facing-homelessness-2017-fundraiser/c159136

This is Crystal, she is homeless, sleeps at night in the woods under the freeway in a tent by herself. She is the same age as my daughter.

On a residential street, at the corner of the block, a mattress had been thrown to the parking strip, under a single blanket was Kiki, trying to stay warm. She is 22 years old, of the Turtle Chippewa Tribe, had spent the night there. When asked if she needed a sleeping bag, a tent, gloves, hat, socks and hand warmers, she said yes, with a big smile. She said she would be there that evening but later in the day, with items from the office in hand, she had gone, everything cleaned up.

Bryan is 40 years old, Kristin 34, both are working hard to get off addiction to heroin, he's in the methadone program, she was. I asked Bryan and Kristin if they were together and they laughed, looked at each other, and told me they were good friends. I then asked if I could take their picture together and the BIGGEST SMILE ever came across their face, telling me they had no pictures of themselves. Afterwards Bryan asked me if I could send the photos to his Grandma Betty, who lives back…
