Flamingo

Flamingo ~ Xavier Ortega Photography ✿⊱╮ They must have some magnificent algae wherever this flamingo hangs out.

Flamingo Garden in Ft. Lauderdale while Jennifer was in class. The flamingos were the highlight of the park. Apparently, the feathers are pink from the foods in their diet (which include brine shrimp and blue-green algae). Their oddly-shaped beaks are specially adapted to separate mud and silt from the food they eat, and are uniquely used upside-down. (Wikipedia)

Pink flamingos are born white. It takes about 3 years to turn pink which is due to their carotenoid rich food.
