Shackleton Expedition - The Endurance
In 1915 Sir Ernest Shackleton led an ill-fated expedition to Antarctica, in a race to be the first to reach the South Pole. His ship The Endurance got caught in the Antarctic ice, broke apart and left his men stranded on the ice for a year. They didn't reach the Pole, but instead endured an outrageous year of traversing the ice and open sea, and all made it home to tell the tale.
