thirtymilesout: Zitkala-Sa (Gertrude Bonnin) 1876-1938 grand daughter of Sitting Bull A wee child toddling in a wonder world, I prefer to their dogma my excursions into the natural gardens where the voice of the Great Spirit is heard in the twittering of birds, the rippling of mighty waters, and the sweet breathing of flowers. If this is Paganism, then at present, at least, I am a Pagan. Zitkala-Sa www.arlingtonceme...

Young Choctaw woman - ceremonial dress
Native American March, Washington DC by since1968, via Flickr, Choctaw. "...The girl is Mississippi Choctaw. You can tell by her necklace, which is in a beaded collar, the dress, which looks like a pioneer dress along with apron, and on that dress is the full diamond pattern, that symbolizes the rattlesnake. Looks like on her right arm there is a basket looped and hanging there. These are made from river cane. The shiny fabric denotes a more "contemporary" flair. "
