We think the family Lepisosteidae is GAR-geous but the Longnose Gar (Lepisosteus osseus) has the most prominent snout of Florida's species. These ancient fish are pretty impressive, with diamond-shaped ganoid scales and long jaws with sharp conical teeth. #FishFriday #FreshWaterFish Ancient Fish, Fish Sketch, Coastal Art

It enters freshwater creeks, rivers, and canals and some populations are thought to spawn in fresh water. Look at those gorgeous scales!
