Jimmy Carter - 39th President of the United States, 76th Governor of Georgia, and 2002 Nobel Peace laureate - attended Georgia Tech from 1942 to 1943 before transferring to the Naval Academy. When President Carter hosted a foreign policy address in Alexander Memorial Coliseum in 1979, he was then presented an honorary doctor of engineering degree for the class of 1946 and the Alumni Distinguished Service Award.

More than 8,000 people flooded to the Portland area in support of the NAACP's 1978 national convention at Memorial Coliseum. The convention included a commerce and industry seminar to discuss economic sanctions against racially segregated South Africa, the Allan Bakke reverse discrimination case and its affect on affirmative action in schools, a controversial energy resolution to deregulate gas and oil prices, & unfair treatment of African Americans in the local job market

The Vancouver Giants are a major junior ice hockey team playing in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Inaugurated in 2001–02, the Giants have won one President's Cup (now known as the Ed Chynoweth Cup) in 2006 and one Memorial Cup in 2007 in their ten-season history. Their home rink is the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia, which was previously used by the NHL's Vancouver Canucks.

The 50th anniversary baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum. The exhibition match, which was played in front of 115,300 people, set a Guinness World Record for largest attendance ever at a baseball game.

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, used twice as Olympic venue in 1932 and 1984, may be old, but never obsolete. A few updates and it can still be regarded as one of the finest sport venues in America.
