Terrace, Art, Laguna, 16Th Century, Venetian Ladies, Venice, Dame Veneziane

c. 1490 Two Venetian ladies with blonde frizzy hair and caps. The very high waist is typical of Venice. Note the chopines or platform shoes to the left. As with other similar pictures, historians argue as to whether these are patrician ladies or courtesans.
Vittore Carpaccio, Due Dame Veneziane, c. 1510. Two Venetian women. Note the lower necklines and very high waists of the dresses.
CARPACCIO, Vittore (1472-1526) Two Venetian Ladies c. 1510 Oil on wood, 94 x 64 cm Museo Correr, Venice Carpaccio portrays two ladies relaxing in the cool atmosphere of a garden, surrounded by a marble balustrade. The women wearing robes with immodest décolleté are sitting on a terrace where Venetian women usually bleached their hair. Their coiffure was popular in Venice at the beginning of the 16th century: curls combed on the forehead and wig on top of the head.
Vittore Carpaccio | Venetian | student under Berlini |Two Venetian Ladies on a Terrace | Carpaccio (c1475) | His style was conservative, showing little influence from the Humanist trends that transformed Italian Renaissance during his lifetime. He was influenced by Antonello da Messina and Early Netherlandish art. For this reason, also because his best work remains in Venice, his art has been rather neglected by comparison with other Venetians, such as Bellini or Giorgione.
