Lake Isabelle & Isabelle Glacier: Isabelle Glacier is located in a saddle between Apache (13,441') and Shoshoni (12,967') peaks in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. The short hike to Lake Isabelle is one of the area's most popular, however few continue on the rugged trek up-valley to its glacial benefactor. (True! Especially when a cold front pops over that Continental Divide and pummels you with hail!)| ProTrails | Photo Gallery, Brainard Lake Recreation Area, Colorado

S.S. Grand View Point Hotel was on the historic Lincoln Highway (Route 30) in Pennsylvania, boasted you could see 3 states and 7 counties from there. I have never actually been in it, but remember being startled by its presence as we navigated the fog enveloped Allegheny Mountains on Rt 30. Sadly it burned down in 2001.

Pony Express Original Home Station No. 1 - The Pony Express has huge appeal today, even though it operated for only 18 months. Between April 1860 & October 1861, riders travelled day & night through all weathers to carry letters from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California & back. The one-way trip usually took 10 days. Riders changed horses every 12 to 15 miles, & rode 75 to 100 miles before turning the mail over to a fresh rider at one of the 40 or so "home stations" along the route.

The Memorial Bridge was a through truss lift bridge that carried U.S. 1 across the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Badger's Island in Kittery, Maine (1923-2011). The bridge closed permanently to vehicle traffic on July 27, 2011, with replacement to be built by July 2013. The bridge closed to pedestrians & cyclists on January 9, 2012. Removal of the main lift span of the bridge was completed on February 8, 2012. Replacement bridge opened with a ceremony on August 8, 2013.

Blenko Glass in Milton, WV - loved watching the craftsmen at work, checking out their glass museum AND shopping for beautiful glass works!

Metamora, Indiana - a historic canal town with 1830's and older buildings. One of the main attractions in Metamora is the grist mill, which was originally built in 1845. And it still grinds corn (you can buy a bag of the cornmeal there).
