Gelli® Plate Printing with Found & DIY Texture Tools! Blog post is full of easy and free ideas! Instead of cutting rice paper — use a water tear to get beautiful feathery edges. To do a water tear — wet a clean pointed brush with water and 'draw' a line where you wish to tear the paper. Gently push the pieces apart along the water line. The paper tears easily and has a natural-looking edge.

Gelli Plate: Intaglio-Inspired Printing (This tutorial was previously published in the book Gelli Plate Printing by Joan Bess, copyright 2014; republished here courtesy of North Light Books and CreateMixedMedia.com.) Intaglio (pronounced in-TAL-ee-oh) prints are created from an etched plate that’s been inked and wiped so that all that remains is the ink in the incised areas. An inked plate is covered with printing paper and put through a press, which pushes the paper into the grooves to transfer the ink, creating the print. The Gelli print adaptation is inspired by intaglio printing and does not use a press. Materials list Gelli plate and brayer acrylic paint paper for printing styrofoam ballpoint pen duct tape scraper Intaglio step 1 1. Cut a styrofoam plate to size [6″ × 6″ (15cm × 15cm)]. Etch an interesting design with the tip of a ballpoint pen. Fold duct tape over the edges of the plate to give you an area for easy handling. - See more at: www.createmixedme...

artful stories: Completely deviating from my usual color palette! The last few weeks I have made a huge pile of Gelli-prints. The background of this one is one of them. I really loved how the excess paint created an interesting texture. I added a chevron mask to the plate before I pulled a print. Next I added dimension with a black Stabilo All pencil, and added some stamped flowers using my own hand-carved stamps. Then added more details with a Bic White-out pen, a fountain pen and other fun details, including modeling paste through a stencil, then adding shine with Inka Gold paste. FUN FUN!

Gelli Stamping with Round Gelli® Plates on a Silk Scarf! Instead of rolling a layer of paint on the gel plate with a brayer as I usually do, I painted thin layers with a flat brush. I love the look of loose brushstrokes in the circle images! And it's so much fun blending colors and swirling brushstrokes — going in circles!
