Pietersite focal bead measures approximately 25.6mm x 13.0mm x 5.3mm Glass polish on all sides The graceful teardrop shape seems to highlight the sheen found in this spectacular piece of blue Pietersite. It has a gorgeous iridescent sheen that reflects the natural beauty found in this lustrous Pietersite focal piece. Like most natural untreated stones, this piece has some imperfections that add to it's organic feel. I have tried to reveal them in the forth picture albeit, they are quite insignificant when not magnified. The stone has an interesting pattern and most definitely lends itself to an heirloom keepsake. Pietersite was discovered by Sid Pieters in 1962 while he was prospecting some farmland in Namibia, Africa. After his discovery, he registered the find in the mineral records of Britain. His discovery was published in 1964, and the material was named Pietersite. Currently, there are only two known sources of Pietersite: Africa and China. African Pietersite is the most sought after due to its wide range of colors. Colors include various blues, golds and reds, that may appear together or alone. BLUE IS THE RAREST COLOR, followed by red. The blues range from a baby blue to dark midnight hue. Golds can be light to very deep and rich, sometimes having a reddish hue. All fibrous color variations will have a superb and striking chatoyancy, the bright and subtly changing shimmer of color that moves along the surface of a gemstone as it is viewed from varying angles. ******************************************************************************************************** The fifth picture shows how the focal bead is presented. Besides a plastic bag and the cotton in this gift box made from recycled materials, the cabochon is wrapped in recycled cushioned paper and placed in a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Box to be mailed to you...safe and sound:) We welcome you to browse through our website and blog for pictures of a few of our family mining adventures as well as information on the stones we make available on our online gallery: www.cascadegems.com.
