Nov. 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy is assassinated while riding in a motorcade in Dallas. I heard the news walking to botany class at Ohio State. It was a beautiful crisp day. One of many (too many) American tragedies. So sad. Those little ones at home broke your heart!

'Black Jack' a coal-black Morgan-American Quarter Horse cross, served in the Caisson Platoon of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). Named in honor of General John J. (Black Jack) Pershing, he was the riderless horse that walked behind the cassion carrying the body of JFK. With boots reversed in the stirrups, he was the symbol of a fallen leader. He awaits the start of the procession at the steps of The Capitol on November 25, 1963.
Black Jack was the Caparisoned horse (the riderless horse who follows the caissons--6 horses pulling the cart which carries the casket of the fallen soldier in a military funeral procession--for the US Military between 1953 (age 6) to 1973 (age 27). The caparisoned horse is required to be black in color and wears the cavalry saddle, the sword and backwards boots in the stirrups, symbolizing the end of a soldier's tenure. "Ireland cork city" was the innocuous title given by the Pinner. Look a little closer. It's JFK in his motorcade driving down Patrick Street in Cork City in June 1963, less than six months before that day of infamy in Dallas. The people of Ireland loved him & mourned him every bit as much as they did in the states, maybe even more in many cases. Sure was he not one if our own, a proud son of County Wexford? Still to this day the only Catholic President. Not the only Irish one anymore though. President I'Bama's proe hail from County Ogfsly...
