THE WVS CULTURAL MAP OF THE WORLD Written by Ronald Inglehart & Chris Welzel This map reflects the fact that a large number of basic values are closely correlated; they can be depicted in just two major dimensions of cross-cultural variation. Each country is positioned according to its people's values and not its geographical location. To a large extent the two coincide, but the map measures cultural proximity, not geographical proximity.

child poverty rates - what a disgrace
Charts, Children Living, Development Country, Poverty Rate, American Children, U.S. States, Childhood Poverty, Child Poverty, United States
SPREAD THE WORD!!! HELP THE CAUSE!!!! what percentage of children live in poverty? This is a pretty shocking graph of developed countries and rates of child poverty. The United States tops the list with the most impoverished children. Why isn't this something we talk more about?
How America ranks in child poverty: According to UNICEF, 23.1% of American children under the age of seventeen live in poverty, which makes the United States rank second out of thirty-five economically advanced countries ranked in that category. Romania ranks first, with 25.5% of children living in poverty.
Child poverty rates by countries. The chart's data is from a UNICEF article ("Tens of millions of children living in poverty in the world’s richest countries") which states that the data reflects only the world's "advanced industrial economies." Third world countries were not included in this study. Some people might get the wrong idea if this isn't clarified.
The United States and Childhood Poverty: In the Developed World, Only Romania is Worse Unicef released a new study (PDF) exploring childhood poverty in the world’s wealthiest countries. What’s happening in this table is a look at what’s called “relative poverty,” defined as the percentage of children aged 0 to 17 “living in a household in which disposable income, when adjusted for family size and composition, is less than 50% of the national median income.
If you’re 27 or younger, you’ve never experienced a colder-than-average month

According to a new report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, October "is the 332nd consecutive month with an above-average temperature." As in, the last time we had a cooler-than-average month was February 1985. As in, NEVER IN MY LIFE have I experienced a month on this planet that was cooler than the historical average, and the last 27 years have looked something like this:
If you're <27 y/o, you've never experienced a colder than average month. O_O
NOAA and NASA say 2012's global temperatures rank in top 10 warmest on record. But, many say the data has been manipulated and NASA's chief climate scientist acknowledged that warming has essentially stopped.

Perspective. Original Pinner said: The map we're used to seeing exaggerates the size of the Republican vote, since there are a lot of red states that are large in area but small in population. In this cartogram, where 1 square = 1 electoral vote, Obama's mandate becomes easier to see. ~ Wow, this is awesome! I just love those number crunchers. You can't argue with arithmetic! :)
