Jackie’s steadiness and courage after the funeral won her admiration around the world. Jackie and her children remained in the White House for two weeks, preparing to vacate. Jackie purchased a home in Georgetown. In 1964, wanting more privacy, she moved to NY City, selling her new house and the country home in Atoka, Virginia, where she and JFK had intended to retire. Jackie spent a year in mourning, making few public appearances; and crying frequently.
