Unusual colours for a Christmas Card
Good morning! Today I'm thrilled to be participating in a blog hop with the other girls who were chosen as Stamping Royalty this year! Hopefully you got here via Katie :) If you want to start at the beginning, head over to Paper Crafts! It was such an honor to be selected, and I can't wait to see the card in Paper Crafts magazine! All of the winners receive a tiara, and our head shots will be published too! Although not the same pic that will be in the magazine, below is another photo from the same photo shoot ("photo shoot" makes it sound so fancy- really, it was just my husband taking pics in the craft room- it took about 5 min, lol): "Hey girl, guess what? I'm Stamping Royalty!" There are 5 categories in the competition, and although I was accepted with a card in the Love category, I'm posting a Christmas card. There will be 3 girls posting for each category today- fun, right? I hope you can see the details- I die cut the ornament from the front panel, then popped that up. In the negative space, I adhered the little pieces that you would typically throw away, and those are stuck directly to the card base. Of course, this blog hop offers great prizes! Here's what you can win: "Garden District" by American Crafts "Outdoor Fun" by Fiskars Inkadinkado Stamping Gear Intro Kit ***To enter, please leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite TV show*** My favorite always changes, but I think right now it's Breaking Bad. I am soooo anxiously awaiting its return. This has been a long break!! You have until 11:59pm EST on Tuesday July 23rd, and I'll post the winner sometime on Wednesday! Your next stop is Jean...have fun!

Chloe Stem & Leaves Thinking of you
Chloe Stem Die by Memory Box
Memory Box Chloe Stem
Good evening- a later post from me for today's LIM challenge as we have been out and about with the dog today. The challenge Chrissie and Jen have set us is Paper piercing (putting tiny holes in your project). I decided to case this card from Debbie over at Lime Doodle- she does CAS so perfectly! For my card I stamped a background from Kirsty Wisemans grunged stamps set. Then I added the sentiment from a Marion Emberson set. The stem and leaves are memory box die cuts; Chloe stem and Lorelai stem which was trimmed down. I pierced the leaves, tied the stems with twine and added grey pearls to the flower head. Finally, after sticking down the main elements I added a line of tiny holes under the background block. I mounted the white card onto vellum before attaching it to the base card with foam tape. Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to take a look at my Paperstash blog candy. Rebecca x

Now I love how this card turned out but is it Less is More, I think I covered the sketch sort of but do you think my vase of leaves and tulips will pass the muster. I first used the Pearl Lace border die from Memory Box then I embossed with a Cuttlebug folder. Stamped the LOTV sentiment on another bit of white card before putting together. The vase is made with the Christmas bauble punch from stamping up just cut the top and bottom, then embossed with the Swiss Dots by Cuttlebug. The large set of leaves are Fresh Foliage and the Tulips are both from Memory Box. I may have made MIL a Birthday card but I've decided I like this one instead. I did have a couple of more ideas but don't seem to have the time to make them into a card this week.

Notable Nest: Seeing [Barn] Stars
I am so excited about this technique Amber Kemp-Gerstel showcased on her blog Damask Love. You take a star die, score down the middle of each point, fold, and then bend the points towards each other (turning the mountain fold in between the points into a valley fold). Then you have a fancy, 3D barn star! What a difference it makes on a card when you otherwise would have used a flat star. This was so fun, I thought I'd use this technique for several different challenges to see how versatile it is. First up: Very simple, the barn star colored with alcohol markers, with a white, embossed sentiment below. Of course, this one is inspired by the CAS-ual Fridays challenge to use scoring on your card. Layering the barn stars gives another look, especially when you layer with glitter. To complete the electric orange triangle of the star and the word "shine", I added the three gemstones. I don't own this color in anything except a marker, so I colored the star, the word and the gems. This one is inspired by the vibrant colors pictured in this Betsey Johnson number from the Runway Inspired Challenge (great challenge, I never would have combined these otherwise!), the Moxie Fab challenge to use neon, and the Papertrey MIM challenge to layer with glitter. The glitter looks nice in person on the shimmery silver papers. Grouping smaller barn stars also gives a nice dimension. I had a hard time getting the card base to be flat again after embossing the sentiment. I sprayed it with water, put it between two books and stood on it for awhile (picture a circus elephant balancing on a tiny stool) ... it got better but still not perfect. Any advice for when this happens on your card base? This card is inspired by the CAS(E) this Sketch challenge and the fresh, Christmas color scheme at The Play Date Cafe. The Memory Box delicate chain die looks like real metal in the foil paper. It's a fun one to touch! Seeing [Barn] Stars
Here's another barn star, this time with a patchwork treatment, as showcased by Papertrey's MIM feature. By cutting the facets of the star from different dies, you could limit it to two colors, have all different colors, use the same color but with different patterns, mix up solid and patterned papers, etc. So many ways to mix it up! Plus then you'll have extras available for making additional stars. The sentiment is in between the masked dotted line. The green layer ended up being slightly tilted when I lined it up with the dotted line so I was going to redo it, but I think it like it this way. This also fits in with the CASology cue word of Star And finally, I can come out of hibernation ... Christmas cards are in the mail, all 90 of them! It seemed like it was going to be a quick design, all I needed was to cut the base on the Silhouette, stamp and emboss the front, add the photos inside, and print the word tree on the back. Well, as I'm surprised by each year, anything times 90 takes a looong time. Sending the paper through the Silhouette became problematic after about the 30th time ... it started cutting the letters in odd places. My computer was pretty hot at that time too, not sure if that had anything to do with it. Has anyone had this issue with the Silhouette? Also, my photos from Shutterfly (which were free due to a printing issue last year) were cut 1/8" crooked. It took me awhile to figure out why my cards weren't square when I put the photo in ... it was the actual photo!! Who would have guessed. So both of the photos had to be manually cut on the top and bottom. I have a feeling next year's photos will also be free ... Here's the inside. We loaded the chair and the pillow into the car and stopped at our local forest preserve. It was late afternoon on a warm, sunny, winter day ... that timing is never going to happen again for us. The boys are smiling so well here. You would never know I had a mini-melt down just 10 minutes earlier (how hard is it to sit there, look at the camera, and smile, people?!) They recovered nicely and after telling some fart jokes that didn't make sense at all, we ended up with some really great photos. You do what you have to do. On the back, each year instead of a newsletter we send a word tree. So much easier for me to write phrases, and it's quick for people to read. I scroll through our photos for the year and jot down the notes. Here's a better feel for the card. Thanks so much for looking, and hopefully I can start getting to your blogs to catch up on what I've missed! -Kelly Supplies used (Barn Star Happy Birthday): stamps: Papertrey Ink Mat Stack II dies: Papertrey Seeing Stars

I have been seeing lots of cards with the Memory Box Landscape dies and pulled my Country one out and made this... I ran the die through with white an black cardstock and with green for the tree. I used a star die from Simon Says Stamp(Holiday Shapes) for the tiny star on top of the tree and the sentiment is actually 2 cut up sentiments from a Papertrey Ink set(Big and Bold Holiday Wishes)...I have really been set free about cutting sentiments and stamps, in general, apart...great when you can say what you want, even though the stamps didn't originally say it:)!! Hope you have a great weekend!! Thanks for visiting me today!! Hugs!! Lisa

Going to a wedding today...have been to A LOT of weddings of late!! Made a quick card and had made a Sympathy card from the same die...different colored paper and sentiment... Both cards were made with Simon Says Stamp Fresh Daisies Die. The wedding card had a stamp from Kaiser Crafts for the sentiment(found on ebay recently a little pack of clear stamp with other wedding words for a few dollars)...the sympathy card has a stamp from Hero Arts (With Sympathy)... I die cut the daisies 3 times each and layered on each card for depth...super easy !!! The green is textured Certainly Celery. Thanks for visiting me today!! Hugs!! Lisa
Super quick post...got a Simon Says Stamp die and HAD to make a card with it... With a sentiment like this, you could use this card for a lot of occasions...but could also add other sentiments with it...I chose simplicity! Layered each word and die cut the Stampin Up punched heart WITH the black cardstock, so that the heart was a PART of the sentiment:)! Put Papertrey Ink Woodgrain texture on card...to give it a little more interest. Hope your weekend is wonderful!! Thanks for visiting me today!! Hugs!! Lisa Editing to add some pics of how I die cut...thanks Scrapper Q for your request: Putting the heart in front of the black paper makes an imprint like this... Now, you could do the same thing without the added layer die cut, the only thing...if you die cut separately, the black centers are pretty sure to come out...if there is the added layer of red, the black centers of the letters are less likely to fall out. You may still have to dot the RED middles of the "e, a and r" to get them to stick, but they will have the black layer behind them to glue TO. I layered the words , but added pop up dots to the heart pieces. Hope this all brings a little more clarity to how I did it all:)!!
The colors that Denise chose for the CAS challenge today looked fun...so made this card:)!! This card has die cut border and sentiment...a no stamp card:(!! I tried to stamp a sentiment, but nothing "looked" right....added glossy accents on the sentiment to add some dimension and a different texture. Die cut the border in white and adhered the colored pieces on top of the white. Hope you have a great week:)!!!
