The Vatican archives document centuries of European history, including Galileo Galilei’s trial documents and Martin Luther’s excommunication. For the first time ever, this treasure is on public display in Rome. The exhibit entitled “Lux in Arcana” is in the city’s Capitoline Museums and runs until Sept. 9, 2012. #Rome #Italy #Vatican

St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican. Had just come up from the dark underground Scavi Tour in to the light streaming in to the Basilica. It was amazing!

There is so much art in the Vatican Museums that if had a week to spend there you would only just scratched the surface.

Ceiling inside St. Peters Basilica. To appreciate the enormity of this building, the size of the lettering is 6' in height.

Vatican City - St Peter's Basilica - The dome. On the climb to the top we saw all these what appeared to be paintings on the dome when we got closer we found they were gorgeous mosaics. Such detail and works of art.

Doge Palace Colonnade - San Marco, Venice

Right next (and partly connected) to St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace is arguably the second most important “attraction” in Venice after the basilica.
